BOULDER, COLORADO, August 31, 2010 – Last week the Boulder County Business Report recognized the most innovative companies within the Boulder Valley at the 10th annual Innovation Quotient (IQ) Awards. Stratom was honored to receive an IQ Award in the Robotics category for their Automated Aircraft Ground Refueling (AAGR) robot.
The AAGR system uses a camera and range-finding sensors with an algorithmic positioning code to identify latches on an aircraft fuel panel. The robotic system is programmed to unlatch the fuel panel, open the panel and insert a fuel nozzle. Using the robotic system removes the risk of injury to people when refueling fighter aircraft on the ground with engines running.
Cory Dixon, Ph.D. was present at the event to receive the award. Last month, Dr. Dixon was invited to present and demonstrate the AAGR technology at NI Week. The AAGR was developed under a contract from the Air Force Research Laboratories. For more information on the AAGR technology, please visit www-ky2nt.hosts.cx/Projects.html.
